"It was a chance encounter with a John Lewis department store that led to the dream of 'Haberdashery'- an hour-long continuous piece of pop that evokes the journey of a small, hairy-footed creature from domestic security to world-changing adventures (sound familiar?).

Song writer Tim Hughes and his gang of alley cats travelled through time and space, from the nursery to the second world war, from an English music hall to a Ugandan village, to bring that dream alive.

Let's get this straight: it started with the songs. They're old songs, now, written before he even left his front door. But everywhere he went, he found those simple words thrown back at him. The words held him to account, and life lived up to the dream.

We all have to make our own way in the world. But it only seems to work when we follow the pattern, the blueprint, the Master-plan. That's Haberdashery."
